Group Dog Training Classes in NYC

Reactive Rover

Location: Muddy Paws 821 9th Ave FRNT 1, New York, NY 10019

Do your neighbors head in the other direction when they see you and your dog exiting the building? Are you tired of your dog’s frantic barking and lunging at every dog they see? Our Reactive Rover class can help you teach your dog how to keep their cool on leash. Your walks will become a breeze in no time!

This 8-week group class, tailored for dogs in New York City, addresses leash reactivity (barking, lunging, or growling) towards other dogs. Participants will learn urban-appropriate handling, preventative strategies, and techniques to help their dogs better manage encounters with other dogs while on leash.

Prerequisites:

  • Proof of up-to-date Rabies, DHPP/DA2PP and Bordetella vaccines and are required to participate.

  • Your dog must wear a collar AND harness or head halter to all classes. The lead trainer may also ask that you bring a muzzle if deemed necessary

  • YOU! We don’t permit friends or non-household family members to bring the dog to class

Polished Pup

Location: PetStar Daycare 383 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10010

Could your pet’s manners use a little polish? Have you let slide some of the skills you learned during their puppy days? Prep School is the perfect place to refine your dog’s skills so that you can enjoy a polite canine companion.

This 6-week manners course is designed for adolescent and adult dogs, focusing on both teaching and reinforcing key obedience skills. The class progressively incorporates challenges like distance, distractions, and duration to strengthen these skills in real-world scenarios. Examples of skills that you will learn are leave-it, drop it, recall, and settling in new spaces. See improvements in your dog's behavior and cultivate a deeper, long-lasting relationship with your pet.

  • Proof of up-to-date Rabies, DHPP/DA2PP and Bordetella vaccines and are required to participate.

  • YOU! We don’t permit friends or non-household family members to bring the dog to class

Tricks

Location: PetStar Daycare 383 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10010

Do you have an active dog with a big brain who’s constantly looking for things to do? Are you interested in growing your bond with your dog through training? In Tricks class you’ll work your dog’s brain and body while also strengthening your relationship and building their confidence!

In this 5-week group class, you will learn how to teach your dog a variety of tricks like high-five, kiss, sit pretty, and more through advanced training techniques. Each class is tailored to the dog's current tricks understanding.

Prerequisites:

  • Your dog must have already completed training with a Paws for Thought trainer OR has received trainer approval for the class. Contact us if you’re interested and haven’t done any previous training with us!

  • Proof of up-to-date Rabies, DHPP/DA2PP and Bordetella vaccines and are required to participate.

  • Your dog must wear a collar AND harness or head halter to all classes. The lead trainer may also ask that you bring a muzzle if deemed necessary

  • YOU! We don’t permit friends or non-household family members to bring the dog to class

Workshops

Is it a challenge to get your dog to stop barking when you have a delivery or when they see other dogs walk passing by your windows? In this 60-minute workshop, discover effective methods to limit this habit altogether and learn valuable strategies to reduce the frequency and volume of your dog's barking so you can maintain a calm, quiet environment for yourself and your neighbors!

These single session workshops are held in-person at Petstar Daycare for dogs 5 months and up. No prior training required.

Window & Door Barkers

  • Thank you for registering! A few notes about the class:

    • Proof of up-to-date Rabies, DHPP/DA2PP, and Bordetella vaccines are required to participate

    • Each class is 60 minutes long

    • Students who arrive more than 10 minutes late to class will not be allowed admittance

    • Refunds are available for workshop cancellations made 7+ days in advance.

    • Yourself! You may not send a friend or other household member in your place unless you have cleared it with the staff member and they have signed a waiver

    • For this specialty class, your dog must wear a martingale neck collar or a front-point body harness.

    • A Treat pouch (see recommendations) is also required.

    • Suggested Harnesses: Petsafe 3n1 Harness, Ruffwear Front Range Harness*

    • Some high value food treats for your dog (chicken, deli meat, cheese, meatballs, peanut butter, etc.)

    • Some medium value food treats* for your dog (please see our recommendations)
